Fowl ambush at bubbly bash
Imagine biting into a cloud of cotton candy expecting the sweet sugar to melt in your mouth, and instead chewing into squishy lumps of duck liver. “I almost puked”, said one long-legged beauty at the launch of Dom Pérignon’98 hosted by Chanel designer Karl (“Kaiser”) Lagerfeld. She then tricked her boy-only down note at the bash in Tribeca, where guests were posed with Danish pastry Helena Christensen. Also on hand to quaff the vintage bubbly: Dom Pérignon prexie, Julianne Moore…

Grape Expectations
Karl Lagerfeld is never far from a glass of bubbly, but it’s not what you might think. In fact, alcohol almost never crosses Lagerfeld’s lips. “It makes me go right to sleep”, he says. Still, abstaining hasn’t prevented the most prolific man in fashion from scoring a plum liquor client –Dom Pérignon- for his burgeoning advertising sideline. Hired as artistic director for the release of its addictively creamy 1998 vintage.

Axel Kramer jetted from Lever House down to Splash light studios for Dom Pérignon’s party to launch the champagne house’s 1998 vintage, co-hosted by Karl Lagerfeld. Once she witnessed the crush of people, however, she reconsidered. “You always go to these things and think, ‘why?’ but I’m fashion sucker. I wanted to see his boots. I can’t help it”. Upon arrival, Lagerfeld paraded through the party, while paparazzi and guests holding out their camera phones followed closely behind.
